Police said an impaired motorist crashed his car in Westwood and then climbed onto the hood of a passing limo, bashed his head through the windshield to get inside and threatened to eat the driver alive. After CLIFFVIEW PILOT was the first with the story, Ken Sharp called.

“The biggest social change of this generation is to end drinking and driving,” said Sharp, the creator and host of “Ridin’ Dirty,” an offbeat public service program on KLAA 830AM, radio home of the LA Angels of Anaheim Major League Baseball team (Yes, the same team that Nick Adenhart — killed by a drunk driver — pitched for).
One of Sharp’s methods of getting his message across involves reporting real stories that show why people shouldn’t get behind the wheel impaired. It seems an odd way to go about it, but Sharp believes the more outrageous the story, the better his chances of getting listeners’ attention.
My five-minute segment fulfilled his daily “OH MY GOD” moment, when Sharp discusses an unbelievable, bizarre or outrageous drunk driving story with co-host Julie Atkinson.

Whether or not you think it’s a cheap ratings grab in PSA clothing, the one-hour program has lasted nearly three years in a major market after testing positively in Phoenix for six months. Guests have included DUI lawyers, representatives of the alcoholic beverage industry, designated-driver companies and a police chief who was fired after he was caught driving drunk.
Sharp, a Mississippi State University graduate, is certainly qualified to discuss the subject: Drinking and driving was “part of the social norm,” he once thought, until two DUIs took him off the road.
“Behavior has changed with the police, but it has stayed the same with everyone else,” said Sharp, who worked as a behavioral health technician, providing court-mandated counseling for DUI offenders at the Scottsdale (Arizona) Treatment Institute, before moving the show to L.A.
” ‘Ridin’ Dirty‘ is about inspiring and motivating people to learn a new way to live when it comes to getting your groove on,” he said.
