Light snow is expected to develop Friday afternoon and continue into the night, making for a potentially slippery evening commute in the tristate area, according to the National Weather Service.

Generally, 1 to 2 inches of accumulation is forecast across the region, the National Weather Service said.

Light snow will develop Friday between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and continue through the evening commute.

Given the cold temperatures, roadways will become snow covered and slippery.

Motorists are urged to use extra caution if traveling Friday evening.

The snow will gradually taper off from west to east after 7 p.m., ending around midnight across the east end of Long Island.

Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high in the mid-30s.
