Cyril Kearney of Hillsdale was taken to HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley after being struck at Berkeley and Harrington avenues around 8:15 a.m. while crossing a woman near Berkeley Elementary School, Police Chief Frank Regino told Daily Voice.

From there, the 70-something public servant was airlifted to the trauma unit at Hackensack University Medical Center, he said.

The Bergen County Fatal Accident Investigation Unit was requested, the chief said. The county sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification was collecting evidence.

The female sedan driver remained at the scene and was being questioned, he said.

"I see people run past his stop sign all the time," borough mother Toni Ann Migliore said. "It's terrible."He's such a great guy, too," she added. "Walks to to Berkeley every day from Hillsdale rain, snow or shine."
