If you haven’t had pics taken yet: Erika Deer-Kelley’s annual “Cutest Baby Contest” shooting ends this Friday.
“I always loved photography,” Deer-Kelley of Westwood says, “but it wasn’t until I had children of my own that I fully comprehended its importance.”
For Erika, September is extra-special: It’s time for “The Cutest Baby” contest.
“My Dad was a professional photographer for more than 30 years, most of which were spent in the exact location I am in now,” she says.
“I am so fortunate to have so many portraits from my youth that are hanging on my walls today…. These moments, no matter how small, happen only once.”
For that reason, Erika puts a great deal of care into her work. Ask anyone whose photos she’s taken.
“I love developing relationships with my clients. Doing a wedding and then having them come in with a newborn and getting to watch a child grow up through my lens is an amaz ing experience, a privilege.”
In the “A Deer First Year” program, Erika documents your baby’s first year in three sessions: You receive several prints and products at each visit, culminating with a custom photo book of that entire year.
She also does weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, christenings, anniversary parties, birthday parties, Quinceaneras, pets, corporate head shots and advertising work.
Erika generally is at her studio Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 6 at night. But it’s best to call first. She does plenty of work on location ( GO TO : www.erikadeer.com ).
Then there’s “The Cutest Baby” contest.
Through the end of September, you are invited to make an appointment to bring in your youngster, up to age 4. Mention CLIFFVIEW PILOT and you’ll receive a FREE session (a $50 value). Erika will also ask you to select a photo to enter in the contest.
If you decide to buy prints or products the day of the shoot, Erika will give you an automatic 20% discount. Everyone will be able to view the entries at a trio of select locations, as well as on Erika’s FACEBOOK page , the first week of October.
The last day of voting is Erika’s annual “Last Chance Votes for Charity.” Everyone is invited to come to the studio and “buy” votes at $2 each – with all of the proceeds going to Gavin Scimeca, the young son of River Vale Police Officer Anthony Scimeca and his wife, Tara ( SEE: Donations still needed for boy’s kidney transplant ).
The top 5 baby photos are then presented to a sharp-eyed judge – who else? Her dad, Jean. He will choose the winner and two runners up.
All three get a 16×20 free portrait, along with various prizes from local stores.
The big night is October 8: Erika will hold a party at the studio to announce the winners.
