If a tree falls on a house and nobody’s home, is it a story? You bet. Around 12:40 this afternoon, a huge tree suddenly toppled onto an unoccupied house and two cars parked in a next-door driveway, said Hillsdale Police Chief Chip Stalter.
Hillsdale police and firefighters converged with utility workers at the Liberty Avenue scene. Fortunately, no one was home, the chief said.
Borough officials declared the house unsafe because of the damage. But because emergency workers moved so quickly, Liberty Avenue was reopened in less than 45 minutes.
Stalter thanked everyone for the smooth teamwork, shooting a special thumbs up to two of the first responders: Police Officers Brian McKeever and Jeff Angermeyer for their “professional and proficient” work.
