WESTWOOD, N.J. -- A smoking air conditioning unit forced the brief evacuation Friday of a Westwood senior care facility.
"There was smoke but no visible signs of fire," Police Chief Frank Regino told Daily Voice as responders moved CareOne at Valley occupants to the front lawn of the Old Hook Road facility, next to HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley Hospital.
No injuries were immediately reported in the noontime incident. Firefighters had the situation resolved and were venting the building within 20 minutes, responders said.
Firefighters from Emerson (engine), Hillsdale (rescue truck) and Woodcliff Lake (FAST team) provided mutual aid.
Westwood and Washington Township also sent ambulances.
The hospital also dispatched mobile units from its emergency room.
