An NJ Transit spokesman this afternoon said he couldn’t confirm a
source’s report that a female engineer was making her first run when a Hoboken-bound Pascack Valley line passenger train from Spring Valley struck and killed a 19-year-old woman who laid on the tracks in Park Ridge before dawn this morning.
The 2013 Pascack Hills High School graduate — a Dean’s List student at her college — was struck between Berthoud Street and the Montvale border behind the Dunkin’ Donuts around 5:25 a.m.
NJ Transit took the 20 passengers aboard to Secaucus by bus, NJ Transit’s William Smith said.
The engineer sounded the horn after seeing the woman lay down on the tracks and began to brake, Smith said. The woman didn’t move out of the way, he said.
Service resumed more than three hours later.

NOTE : CLIFFVIEW PILOT has an unofficial policy of not identifying suicide victims who are not known to the general public. We don’t like the idea of someone searching for that person online and finding such a story. An obituary or death notice more than suffices.
