PARK RIDGE, N.J. -- Gregg R. Hauser, of Park Ridge, died on Wednesday, March 23. He was 70.
Hauser received a bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton, a master's degree from the Graduate Faculty of The New School in New York City, and a doctorate from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He was a special education teacher, a learning disabilities consultant, a director of special services, a regional coordinator for special services, and a superintendent of schools in New Jersey for 25 years. He served as superintendent in the districts of Englewood Cliffs and Colts Neck.
After Hauser retired, he worked as an interim superintendent in Rumson, Waldwick, and Demarest. He also belonged to many professional organizations. He enjoyed travel, coaching his children's sports teams, remodeling and watching sports -- especially the New York Mets and New York Giants. "Everyone who knew him realized that his family was always his priority in life," information from the funeral home noted. "He was an outstanding educator, a gifted athlete, a trusted and loyal friend, a faithful Catholic and above all else, a man who lived his life with dignity."
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Christine Meany Hauser; children Alison Hauser and her husband Kenneth Kitch of Glen Rock, and Kieran and Colleen Hauser of Manalapan; grandchildren Elizabeth Ann and Nathan Gregg Hauser and Connor Gregg Kitch; brothers, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Roger Hauser, Scott and Virginia Hauser, Denise Meany and Vincent Jarvis, Adrianne and Douglas Kamm, Brian and Beth Meany, Paula and Anthony Borzone, Nadine and Art Tigera, Lynn and Bill Freed, Tara and Darryl DiRisio, and Danielle and Michael Scheuring; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Hauser was predeceased by his parents and in-laws, Doris (Warnock) and Robert Hauser, and Regina and Martin Meany, all of Northvale.
Visiting hours will be from 3:30-7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 28 at the Robert Spearing Funeral Home, 155 Kinderkamack Rd., in Park Ridge. A mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, at St. Gabriel Archangel Church, East Saddle River Rd., in Saddle River. Entombment will be in Ascension Cemetery, in Airmont.
