Every Surrendered Just Pups Dog Being Treated For Respiratory Problems

EMERSON, N.J. — Former Just Pups owner Vincent LoSacco of Emerson on Thursday evening signed over more than 70 dogs to the SPCA days after his East Hanover store was shut down, rescue officials told Daily Voice.

All of the dogs have respiratory problems, including kennel cough and pneumonia, and were surrendered to several local rescues, including Husky House of Matawan, according to the rescue's director, Lorraine Healy.

LoSacco said he and his employees checked the dogs three to four times a day for runny eyes, nasal discharge and other visible symptoms. His veterinarian, however, last Saturday found three to four puppies who had respiratory problems because he used the stethoscope, and those dogs were immediately isolated, LoSacco said.

"I'm not disputing that every dog was being treated for respiratory problems," he said, "but I find it hard to believe that every single one had a respiratory problem.

Forty of the dogs are being quarantined, 24 are on antibiotics and in Husky House foster homes, and the remaining 10 are with other rescues, Healy said.

Almost three weeks ago last year, dead dogs were recovered from LoSacco's freezer.

Husky House already has received more than 100 adoption applications but does not plan on adopting out the dogs until they are all healthy, Healy said.
