Kurpis, a member of the council for three years, takes his first turn as mayor following the results of the 2015 election.
"I think it's going to be good," Kurpis told Daily Voice. "I think we have a great council, very smart people and I think everyone's willing to work together."
Benjamin M. Acaster and Elizabeth Salazer were also sworn in as members of the council.
Sunday marked the swearing in followed by the council reorganization Monday, Kurpis said.
Monday's meeting will be dedicated to appointing new liaisons for various committees, the new mayor said.
Kurpis takes over as mayor from Samuel S. Raia.
Kurpis said Saddle River is in good shape going forward. Borough officials have kept taxes low while improving facilities and supporting the school system, he said.
"The last eight years taxes haven't gone up," he said. "I hope to continue governing with the same parameters and milestones in mind."
