HILLSDALE, N.J. -- Students from Pascack Valley High School helped American Legion Post 162 of Hillsdale, Woodcliff Lake, Old Tappan supply homeless veterans with new backpacks, winter clothing and food gift cards.

The high school sophomores collected and donated nearly $900 in gift certificate cards in support of the Bergen County Tracers Program of the Division of Veteran Services in Hackensack.

"The school, teachers and parents deserve to be very proud of these great girls," the American Legion's Zoltan Horvath said.

On any given night there are anywhere from 125 to 150 homeless veterans, male and female homeless, in Bergen County, he noted.
