EMERSON, N.J.– Selecting a redeveloper for Emerson's central business district is the first step in the borough's transformation into the 21st century, Mayor Lou Lamatina said.

After hearing proposals from four companies in March, the governing body voted unanimously to move forward with JMF Properties of Whippany, officials said.

The redevelopment area spans nine lots from Lincoln Boulevard to Linwood Avenue west of Kinderkamack Road but not including Ranchero Cantina or a neighboring retail building. It does include the borough’s volunteer ambulance corps building, said Lamatina.

JMF proposed a three-story, mixed use building near Linwood Avenue.

This was the second request for proposals the borough issued for the project. The previous RFP included only five lots.
