WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. -- Customer Service is key to keeping Woodcliff Lake's Fringe Salon in business 13 years and counting.
Owner Kathleen O'Neill, a Pearl River, N.Y. resident, also credits the fact that she and her business partner, Therese Liguori of North Haledon are constantly introducing new services to their valued clients.
"Loving what we do and working well together as a team also helps," she said.
That, plus the fact that the two, who've been in the beauty industry for 30 years, try not to take themselves too seriously. "We have a lot of fun at our salon and our clients are a testimony to that," she added.
Among the "new" -- microblading (also known as 3D brows, embroidery, and microstroking) -- which started in Asia 25 years ago but in 2015 overtook tattooing as an alternative to permanent makeup.
"The history of microblading is very brief, but, its future is very bright," said O'Neill. "Women love it.
"When a woman loses the hair on their eyebrows for various reasons such as thyroid, chemotherapy treatments, age or hereditary. It's a constant battle. Microblading is a solution for them."
Her advice for those who are interested? "Do your research; don't just go to anyone."
"Anyone can learn the technique, but not everyone can learn the custom artistry," she said.
Other Fringe Salon services include coloring, retexturizing hair treatments such as keratin, as well as braiding, eyelash dying, eyebrow tinting and invigorating and calming scalp treatments done with essential oils.
All salon products are sulfate, paraben, and gluten free. O'Neill said they've also just introduced an all natural line.'
"We take special care in what we use in our salon not only for the customers but, also for the staff," she said.
