MAHWAH, N.J. – Golfers hoping to hit the Darlington Golf Center’s driving range on sunny days this winter will have to find another spot to swing their clubs.

At least, for the time being.

“Closed,” reads a sign on the door of the center’s building off Campgaw Road in Mahwah. “Our lease with Bergen County expired Dec. 31, 2016.”

But the shut-down is only temporary, according to Bergen County Golf Director Tom McGovern.

“Their contract expired last year and it was extended for a year, but by law it cannot be extended any longer than that,” McGovern said.

“So we either have to go out to bid or we will take over the running or operation of the driving range ourselves,” he said

McGovern said he hopes the driving range will reopen in time for golf season this March.
