WESTWOOD, N.J. -- The Westwood Regional School District’s counseling department became the first in Bergen County to have its entire staff participate in mental health first-aid training on Tuesday, Jan. 26. The eight-hour course focused on building skills necessary to increase awareness of mental health and substance abuse and promote age-appropriate skills geared toward recovery and building resiliency in the district’s students.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to improve the knowledge and skills of our entire guidance staff," Supervisor of Guidance Michael Corso said in a statement. "It will not only impact our district personnel, but also provide another level of service for all of our students in every building.”
Training was also extended to other select members of the district’s staff, including those from the Special Services department as well as a district principal.
