Washington Township BFFs Counter Bullying With Bracelets

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- Two Washington Township girls on a mission distributed "Defeat Bullying" bracelets to the entire second grade in each of their schools.

Best friends Ellorie Roberts of Washington Elementary School and Gina Castronova of Jessie F. George Elementary School bought the blue bracelets with their own money.

October is National Bullying Awareness Month, and blue is its color. But Ellorie and Gina wanted to do more than just wear a t-shirt.

"Heather and I are super-proud that our girls are compassionate to the bullying issue and came together to spread awareness," Ellorie's mom, Lorraine Roberts, told Daily Voice.

"The fact that these second-grade girls offered to pay with their own money because then they could say to their classmates it came from them and not their parents was the icing on the cake," Roberts added. "We could all learn something from them."

The BFFs are already saving and planning for next year's "Week of Respect," as well as for other ways to counter bullying, Roberts said.
