PASCACK VALLEY, N.J. — With summer closing and school days resuming, AAA reminds drivers to watch out for pedestrians before and after school hours.
In the last 10 years, roughly one in four child pedestrian fatalities occurred between 3 and 7 p.m., according to AAA.
Pascack Valley High School, Pascack Hills High School, Ann Blanche Smith, Meadowbrook School and George G. White open their doors for students on Wednesday, Sept. 2. Dorchester Elementary and Woodcliff Middle School also open on Sept. 2.
Holdrum Middle School, Roberge Elementary School, Woodside Elementary School, Memorial Elementary and Fieldstone Middle School begin classes on Thursday, Sept. 3. East Brook Elementary, West Ridge Elementary and Park Ridge High School also open on Sept. 3.
Westwood Regional Junior/Senior High School, Westwood Regional Middle School, Berkeley Elementary, Brookside Elementary, George Elementary and Washington Elementary students have their first day of school on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Primoris Academy and Saint Joseph Regional High School's first day of school is on Tuesday, Sept. 8. St. John's Academy opens for students on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Tips to remember when driving during the school year include:pas
Slow down and be mindful of speed limits in school zones
Come to a complete stop and check crosswalks and sidewalks for children
Eliminate distractions such as cell phones
Slowly backup when reversing and check all blind spots
Watch for bicycles and make sure children wear bike helmets
Talk to teen drivers about safety
