WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The Washington Township Council has introduced an ordinance to cover the cost of replacing Memorial Field's natural grass with artificial turf, NorthJersey.com reports.
The cost would be $2.45 million in bonds for improvements to the field and surrounding area. Residents are concerned that the money should be diverted to more pressing needs, the report said.
In addition to installing a turf field, new lighting fixtures, the construction of a drainage system, new sidewalks, a parking lot, curbing, benches, fencing, bleachers, landscaping and other work are planned for the site.
