ONLY ON CLIFFVIEW PILOT: Utility workers believe an animal was responsible for downing a power line that blocked the entrance to Memorial Park in Westwood past dark.

No one’s service was disrupted in the neighborhood, as air conditioners hummed away on a humid evening with temperatures approaching triple digits.
But it got a bit dicey for one family who had to stay inside their house or on their porch until Public Service Electric & Gas workers arrived.
“It was about 6 p.m.,” the homeowner told CLIFFVIEW PILOT . “There was a big flash and sparks were flying from the wire that snapped.”
She called 911 “and Westwood police came immediately.”
Fifteen minutes later, two PSE&G trucks pulled up.
With the street closed, the utility workers told the family to stay on their property, then set about restringing the line.
Again, no power was disrupted in the area during that time.
They finished well after 9 o’clock — past the time anyone would be using the ballfield or playground off Kingsberry Avenue.
