No charges had been filed against the 61-year-old Park Ridge driver as the probe continues, acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said.

The victims were struck on a sidewalk at Park Avenue and Diedtrich Lane near Borough Hall by a 2015 Volvo that left the roadway just before 8 p.m. Sunday, Grewal said.

Ioannis Kapantais later died at Hackensack University Medical Center, the prosecutor said. Meanwhile, Maochia Hu remained there in critical condition Tuesday, he said.

Detectives from Grewal's Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and Park Ridge police were handling the case.
