Prosecutor: Doctor Charged With Billing Fraud

PASSAIC COUNTY, N.J. -- A 49-year-old physician from Park Ridge was charged with several counts of healthcare claims fraud, authorities said.

Mark Schwartz, an osteopathic physician with offices in Park Ridge and Passaic, is accused of submitting fraudulent billing to Horizon Blue Cross for patient visits and exams that did not occur between October 2015 and April 2016, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said Thursday.

Schwartz also falsified medical records of a patient after he became aware of the investigation, she said.

Valdes said the investigation was conducted by her Insurance Fraud Unit.
