AirMed One transported the victim from the soccer field at the Stonybrook Swim Club to Hackensack University Medical Center after a 911 call came in of a pedestrian struck around 8 a.m. on Piermont Avenue near Pascack Valley High School, Detective Bill Diedtrich said.

Responding officers "immediately began to administer first aid and requested that a medical helicopter be dispatched due to the severe nature on the victim’s injuries," Diedtrich said.

"Additionally, the officers on scene quickly broadcast a description of the vehicle in hopes that it could be located," he said.

The vehicle was found at a local shop a short time later."The driver was unaware that he may have been involved in an accident and was released without being charged," Diedrich said.

An investigation of the circumstances, including a review of area surveillance video, was continuing.
