MONTVALE, N.J. — The Montvale Police Department is recognizing an individual who delivered a hand-written apology letter following their arrest.

The Montvale police received an apology letter following an arrest: "It takes a tremendous amount of maturity and courage to walk into a police department and hand-deliver a note like this one," the department said on Facebook.

The note, posted on the department's Facebook page on April 27, reads:

"This is to all the officers whom assisted in my arrest. I know that it will not do anything or change. I just wanted to apologize for that day. You were just doing your job."

Chief Jeremy Abrams was moved by the author's initiative.

"Sometimes, interactions with police can be difficult, particularly when an individual is arrested," the chief told Daily Voice.

"A note like this shows character and a willing to face one’s issues.

"Thank you again to 'TR.'"
