Husband of missing Emerson woman lived under childhood friend’s identity

EXCLUSIVE REPORT: A missing Emerson woman’s husband, arrested yesterday for pretending to be someone else, took his identity from a childhood friend who died in a motorcycle crash in their native Irish County Carlow, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned.

The real Joseph Murphy was 34 when he was killed in September 2002. His funeral drew dozens of area bikers.

The phony Murphy — actually 51-year-old Paschal Delahanty — used the same birthdate as his late friend.

The real Murphy’s death had a couple of twists of its own:

Hours before he died, he’d attended the funeral of another biker.

He and that man, Kenneth Agar, had shared a room and attended a motorcycle rally with rugby star Pat Bermingham — who died in a cycle crash four months before Murphy.

Detectives investigating the disappearance of Liza Murphy in 2007 discovered that her husband entered the U.S. illegally from Ireland and for the past 15 years and was living under the assumed name, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said in announcing Delanhunty’s arrest on government documents fraud. Bail was set at $350,000.

Delahunty became a lawful permanent resident (green card holder) in 1990. READ MORE….
