Angel, 8, was serving as Park Ridge’s police “Chief for a Day,” and was accompanied to East Brook Elementary School by Police Chief Joseph Madden who spoke to students about Angel’s honorary position.

The boy was one of about two dozen children from throughout Bergen County – all with chronic health conditions or disabilities – who served as police “Chief for a Day” for their respective towns Friday.

Angel’s day started when he was picked up at home by police officers. He also spent time at police headquarters where he got to check out the equipment and sit in the police chief’s office. And he met with other Bergen chiefs and "Chiefs for a Day" on the steps of the Bergen County Courthouse in Hackensack.

The police chief’s office was Angel’s favorite part of the experience, he told Daily Voice.

Madden enjoyed the day too.

“It is the best day of the year,” Madden said, adding that Angel’s name is fitting.

“He is an angel,” he said.
