Christian Sapp, 22, of Jersey City, punched the 34-year-old borough man and kicked his dog outside the Wendy’s Restaurant on Hillsdale Avenue just before 10 p.m. yesterday and then fled, Police Chief Chip Stalter said this afternoon.

Officer Alex Kaplan interviewed the victim and quickly pegged Sapp, the chief said.

Sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT that’s because Sapp has a history of random attacks. Records show charges dismissed in at least two recent cases.

Hillsdale Municipal Court Judge Warren Clark issued two warrants charging SAPP with aggravated assault and animal cruelty and set a combined $50,000 bail.

Detective Sgt. Sean Smith and Jersey City police took the 5-foot-5-inch, 155-pound Sapp into custody without incident at his Chapel Avenue home earlier today, Stalter said.

Sapp, who has an arrest record for car burglary and simple assault, was transferred to the Bergen County Jail this afternoon.

CLIFFVIEW PILOT broke the story this morning of the attack.
