Good Samaritans Aid Hillsdale Cyclist In River Vale Crash

RIVER VALE, N.J. – Two nurses rushed to the aid of 20-year-old motorcyclist from Hillsdale who was ejected after a crash Thursday night in River Vale, authorities said.

The Good Samaritans were tending to the unresponsive cyclist in the area of 810 Westwood Avenue when borough police – joined by their colleagues from Old Tappan -- arrived just before 9 p.m., Detective Sgt. John J. DeVoe said Friday.

Officers took over care before the Old Tappan Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Hackensack University Medical Center Mobile Intensive Care Unit arrived, DeVoe said.

A medical chopper was placed on standby but not used, the sergeant said, adding that the victim was taken to HUMC in Hackensack by ambulance.

The River Vale Volunteer Fire Department providing lighting, he said.

Detectives determined that the victim was headed westbound on Westwood Avenue when he was thrown after losing stability.
