The call was traced to a family in town who had nothing to do with it, law enforcement sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“Looks like it was an Internet call using a local number,” one said.

The caller, who had a British accent, didn’t provide a timetable for his supposed threat to fire on headquarters with an AR-15, the sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT last night.

The family whose number he used is Hispanic, they said.

Bergen County Police Department investigators joined their Garfield counterparts in tracing the source.

Detective Capt. Darren Sucorowski issued this release early this evening:

“On 10/13/2014 at approximately 4:24pm the Garfield Police Department received a call from a male reporting that he was going to respond to Police Headquarters in a short amount of time and kill everyone inside by shooting them. The male then hung up without providing any further information.

“Officers within the department were notified of the threat and the Bergen County Police responded to provide additional assistance.

“The incident is currently being investigated as a terroristic threat by the Garfield Police Department Detective Bureau. Anyone that has information pertaining to the threat is urged to call the Garfield Police at 973-478-8500.”
