Louis Montalvo, 23, "just left the car there and took off" following the 10:55 p.m. crash Tuesday on Old Hook Road, Police Chief Michael Mazzeo told Daily Voice.

Closter police took Montalvo into custody after their Emerson colleagues traced the registration of the 2009 Honda wagon and issued an alert, Mazzeo said.

Eastbound Old Hook Road was reopened mid-morning on Wednesday, while the westbound lanes remained closed as a PSE&G crew replaced the pole. Westbound traffic was diverted to Bogerts Mill Road.

Montvalo was charged with DWI and received summonses for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, among other offenses.
