YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A 16-year-old girl was believed to be behind the wheel of a car that was struck by a New Jersey Transit train in Montvale this morning.
The girl was taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with what were characterized as minor injuries following the crash, which a spokesperson said occurred at 11:11 a.m.
Her two passengers got out, but the driver didn’t after she panicked and drove onto the tracks as the gates were coming down, NJ Transit’s William Smith told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
None of the 60 passengers or crew members on the westbound Pascack Valley Line #2107 train was injured, Smith said.
A light pole was knocked down and landed atop another vehicle.
Service resumed between Park Ridge and Spring Valley just before 1 o’clock.
Area roads were predictably thickened, including westbound on Grand Avenue, as a result of diverted Kinderkamack Road traffic.
( NOTE: Residents of New Jersey and New York can obtain a learner’s permit at 16.)
