YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: The word had barely come to River Vale police when they began watching a Westwood business where a parolee already facing charges for burglarizing a popular Kinderkamack Road bagel store — and now wanted on a fugitive warrant out of Rockland County — was working.

This morning, they moved in and arrested bodybuilder Joey M. LaBonville, 37, who was wanted out of Clarkstown on charges of burglary and grand larceny.

LaBonville was taken to the River Vale Police Department, where he was processed and then taken to the Bergen County Jail pending extradition.

Less than three months ago, Emerson and Westwood police nabbed Labonville on video after the owner of Golden Bagles found his back door pried open and both cash registers smashed.

“Things were thrown around all over the place. Money was missing,” Emerson Detective Michael McDermott told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .

What the burglar didn’t know was that a video recorder captured him at work.

“We could see him hitting the cash registers, removing things,” McDermott said.

It wasn’t difficult to identify a suspect:

Labonville, a barber by trade, was released earlier this year from a treatment facility (He’d been convicted of drunk driving earlier this year in Westchester).

McDermott said a search warrant turned up evidence from the break-in at Labonville’s Westwood apartment, which is just across Westwood Cemetery from the bagel shop.

“Westwood police played a key role in helping solve this quickly,” McDermott said. “We thank them and the other departments who assisted.”

Labonville is on parole in New York State until 2021, records show.

Detectives called Labonville’s parole officer, who viewed the video and positively identified him, a source with direct knowledge of the arrest told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .

He was free on bail in connection with the bagel store break-in when River Vale police were notified of the outstanding Clarkstown warrant.
