Gary E. Huffman, 42, was released pending a hearing in Central Judicial Processing Court on insurance fraud and theft charges, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said Friday.

Investigators in his office received a tip in late March that led to the arrest by members of his Financial Crimes Unit, Grewal said.

After being injured in April 2015, Huffman “filed for temporary disability and worker’s compensation benefits and began receiving the insurance payments shortly thereafter,” the prosecutor said.

Four months later, “Huffman began working for the new company and received cash payments for the work,” Grewal said.

“The worker’s compensation payments only ended when it was determined that Huffman was working in violation of his disability status,” he added.
