YOU READ IT HERE FIRST : A 4-year-old girl was left alone by her uncle, who was arrested on abandonment charges when he finally returned home, Park Ridge Police Chief Joseph Madden said.
“A neighbor had knocked on the apartment door to drop off a delivery package that was mistakenly delivered to the neighbor’s apartment,” the chief said Wednesday. “A four-year-old female child answered the door and was alone in the apartment with no adult supervision.”
The neighbor immediately contacted the state Division of Youth and Family Services, who directed the caller to summon police, he said.
Fifteen minutes after the officers took the child into protective custody, the girl’s uncle returned, the chief said, adding that Adalberto Velazquez of Kinderkamack Road had picked up her mother from work.
The child remains in her parents’ custody while police investigate the incident, Madden said.
