Longtime Westwood Teacher And Park Ridge Resident Karen Lee Walz Dies At 71

PARK RIDGE, N.J. -- Karen Lee Walz, of Park Ridge, on Monday, Jan. 2. She was 71.

Walz enjoyed a long career in education. She was a kindergarten teacher, taught in the Hand Bell Program and Sign Language Class at Zion Lutheran School, in Westwood, until she retired.

She was an active member and Sunday School teacher at the Pascack Reformed Church. She was a member of the Red Hat Club, sold Mary Kay cosmetics and loved to bake homemade desserts for her family. 

Walz is survived by her husband of 40 years, Guenter Walz; children Andreas and his wife Talene, Kristoph, Stefan and step-daughter Michele Walz; sister Linda Rose Jovais; and grandchildren Liam and Henry Walz. 

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, at the Robert Spearing Funeral Home, 155 Kinderkamack Rd., in Park Ridge. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Pascack Reformed Church, in Park Ridge, with interment in that cemetery.
