PARK RIDGE, N.J. -- John J. McKenna, of Park Ridge, died Sunday, Nov. 27.
He was a graduate of St. John’s University's Queens campus and a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.
He started his teaching career in 1967, teaching accounting in Bay Ridge High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. He later taught at Benjamin Cardozo High School in Bayside, Queens, N.Y. until his retirement.
He was a parishioner of Holy Family R. C. Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus both in Flushing, N.Y. He was a member of the Irish America Society of Long Island. He traveled every summer in a camper, eventually visiting every state in America. He was an avid golfer and loved hosting the McKenna Golf Classic annually.
He is survived by his sister, Diane Fliegel.
He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph McKenna.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Mercy R. C. Church, 46 Pascack Road, Park Ridge. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the Robert Spearing Funeral Home Inc., 155 Kinderkamack Road, Park Ridge. Interment will be in Mount St. Mary Cemetery in Flushing.
