MONTVALE, N.J. -- James Peter Jones, MD of Montvale, died suddenly on Dec. 26.

He served as Vice President of Administration for Mount Sinai West and Senior Medical Director of Clinical Documentation Quality Improvement for the Mount Sinai Health System. He performed his roles with astounding energy and enthusiasm and was an integral and much-loved member of the Mount Sinai community. He was recognized for excellence in medical education and teaching at every level of his training. 

He received his medical degree from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico in 1999.

He was a distinguished faculty member of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he was Assistant Professor of Medicine (Nephrology).

During his medical residency and fellowships at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, his peers awarded him an outstanding house staff award for six of his seven years of training. 

In 2008, he was the recipient of the President’s award for excellence for his work in medical informatics. In 2014, he was honored by the St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Alumni Association as distinguished faculty member of the year. 

He was a parishioner of the R. C. Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River.

He is survived by his wife, Clara Navarro of 14 years; son, Cody Jones; parents, Peter and Bridget Jones; sister, Donna Schmidt and her husband John, nephew Declan Schmidt.

Visitation 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. on Thursday at the Robert Spearing Funeral Home, Inc. 155 Kinderkamack Road, Park Ridge. Funeral mass 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, at the R. C. Church of the Presentation, 271 W. Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River. Interment in Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah.
