MONTVALE, N.J. -- James E. Whitney Sr., 72, of Montvale, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Sunday, June 26, 2016.
He was the husband of Anne T. Whitney (nee Panella); father of James E. Whitney Jr., Kathryn Genua and her husband Matthew and Scott Osborn; brother of Harold Whitney and his wife Lois; and grandfather of Allyson and James Genua. He also is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was a Montvale police officer until his retirement in 1968 and past PBA president who created the first Thanksgiving dinner event for the Montvale Seniors Club. Whitney also was a member of the American Legion, Post 153, Park Ridge, past post commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Pascack Memorial Post 8946, freshman baseball coach for St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vienam War.
There will be a funeral Mass at 1 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady Mother of the Church, 209 Woodcliff Ave., Woodcliff Lake. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Robert Spearing Funeral Home Inc., 155 Kinderkamack Road, Park Ridge. Interment will be in Westwood Cemetery.
