EMERSON, N.J. — A family from Emerson suffered minor cuts after a 30-pound turkey shattered the windshield of its rental SUV while driving along a highway in Indiana.

The Tarabocchia family on Thursday had just left Notre Dame University where their daughter has been accepted, when the bird impaled the center of the windshield and died, La Porte County Sheriff reports.

The day before, a bird hit the windshield of an Indiana State Trooper, who suffered no injuries, The New York Times reports.
