Teens Charged After Posting Video Climbing New TZB

Video Credit: YouTube

Three teens who filmed themselves trespassing on the new Tappan Zee Bridge and then posted it on YouTube have been charged with third-degree criminal trespass, according to New York State Police.

State police received a report of the YouTube video featuring the three teens posing on the bridge on Saturday, Aug. 5, said Trooper Michael Cassella, a state police spokesman for Troop T.

Cassella said the clip shows the teens videotaping themselves trespassing on the bridge during early morning hours in July 2017.

The video shows the three walking along train tracks around 4 a.m., climbing through a hole in a fence and walking onto the bridge. The teens can also be seen illegally walking on the new span, which will open for Rockland--bound traffic on Friday, Aug. 25.

The teens appear to be running from police toward the end of the video, which carries a caption "Chased by cops."

To date, the video has received around 6,000 views.

Damien LaVera, a spokesman for Tappan Zee Constructors, said "the safety and security of the project site are top priorities for us.

"Earlier this summer, three young men were detected breaking into the project site," LaVera added. "After gathering evidence, we turned the matter over to the State Police, who quickly made arrests. We appreciate the swift and professional response by the State Police.”

State police are not releasing the teen's names under the youthful offender status and declined to provide additional information, Cassella said.

Following their arrest, the teens were issued tickets to appear in the Town of Greenburg Court.
