EMERSON, N.J. — AAA North Jersey presented an Award of Merit to the Emerson Police Department for outstanding traffic safety programs.
"I'm very pleased and proud to have represented the Borough of Emerson in accepting this prestigious award," Mayor Lou Lamatina told Daily Voice after the Oct. 21 presentation at the Brownstone in Paterson.
"The numerous awards and accolades being received by the Department are tributes to the Department's excellent leadership and its dedicated officers," the mayor said.
Each municipality in Bergen County submitted surveys and figures to AAA for comparison to similar towns, AAA North Jersey Manager of Public and Government Services Steve Rajczyk said.
"We try to reward each town and the area that we serve to show their good work isn't going unnoticed," he said.
"I just like people to know that police are out there and they are trying to do their best for safety," Rajczyk added. "They really do care about their communities and that's the whole purpose of these awards."
A team effort in Emerson among the mayor, council, road department, engineers and police department made it all possible, Lamatina said.
"The governing body will continue to support our fine department to insure that the standard of excellence remains the benchmark," the mayor said.
