RIVER VALE, N.J. — Two rising eighth graders at Holdrum Middle School in River Vale are selling baked goods at the Farmers Market Thursday.
Nina and Emma are going for their Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest award a Cadette Girl Scout can earn and helps girls build leadership, organizational, determination, and dedication skills.
The scouts are collecting new or gently used school supplies for Tiny Hope Children's Home in Jamaica for their project.
"The reason I chose Tiny Hope is my aunt and uncle run it and I thought we could do something to help their organization since they have been kind to my family," Emma said.
"Also, it would be nice to support an organization that I was familiar with and know."
Nina jumped in after Emma told her about the idea.
"After seeing children in other poor countries on family vacations I thought this was a perfect opportunity to help out," Nina said.
The girls will be selling cupcakes, cookies, brownies and crumb cake beginning at 12 p.m. at the market, located in the parking lot adjacent to the tennis courts behind Town Hall.
