The annual event held Saturday "encourages people to connect, embrace diversity, spread goodwill, joy, love and peace," Ridgewood mom Uma Rajagopal explained.
"The powders represent happiness, love and the freedom to live vibrantly.
"The only time the colors on the skin unite people."
Holi is traditionally celebrated mostly in India and Nepal, and includes live music performances, dancing, crowd participation and authentic Indian cuisine, Rajagopal said.
The highlight of Holi is the traditional color-throwing festivities, which leaves revelers covered in colors of the rainbow. It's beautiful, messy and so much fun.
"It brings in harmony and awareness amongst the community at large through their participation in a rich traditional, cultural and colorful experience," Rajagopal said.
