The Garden State has a lot to be proud of.

As of 2017, it is among the safest states in the U.S., as its crime rates are far below nationwide averages, according to a new report by Alarm.org.

River Vale was named the safest municipality in the state, with New Milford trailing in second place.

None of New Jersey’s top 20 safest cities have a violent crime rate reaching 1 incident per 1,000, or 5 property crimes per 1,000. Those looking for a safe place to raise a family in New Jersey have a slew of options to choose from, the reports says.

The top 50 safest municipalities in Bergen and Passaic counties include:

  • 47. Hasbrouck Heights
  • 46. Palisades Park
  • 41. Wyckoff
  • 37. Oakland
  • 36. Glen Rock
  • 34. Waldwick
  • 33. Mahwah
