The symposium, offering information for the public and medical professionals, is sponsored by the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at Hackensack University Medical Center.
Faculty members will provide presentations for treating mind, body and spirit, the department said in a news release. The two-day program is designed for all health care providers, including psychiatrists, internists, family practitioners, other physicians, psychologists and nurses. Anyone with an interest in psychiatry also is welcome to attend.
For the public, the symposium will discuss the latest treatments in mental health, including treatments for substance abuse, postpartum depression, ADHD and autism.
For clinicians, the symposium will provide information about the latest treatments in mental health and medicine, including epigenetics, neuroplasticity and integrative medicine.
The symposium is from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day at the Hilton Woodcliff Lake, 200 Tice Blvd., Woodcliff Lake. Registration and breakfast begin at 8 a.m. each day.
Titled the “International Integrative Behavioral Health Symposium, The Third Revolution in Psychiatry,” the conference will include presentations on a case study in postpartum depression, a case study on co-morbid depression, hypertension and diabetes, a case study on depression co-morbid with rheumatoid arthritis and a case study on opiate addiction and depression.
Other presentations include yoga for stress reduction, natural supplements for mental health, how behavior can affect the immune system and motivational techniques to treat addiction and mental health.
Dr. Diego Coira, a psychiatrist at HackensackUMC, will open the symposium at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 24 with a program overview, followed by Dr. Scott Shanon speaking on “Epigenetics And Neuroplasticity: Change Your Lifestyle And Change Your Genes.”
