"The day was hot but had wonderful endings for four dogs and perhaps more on the way as many residents were highly interested," organizers noted. "The day also produced one potential foster home, new volunteers and donations for animals in need."

The North Shore Animal League also assisted. With its van, the shelter was able to bring many animals for viewing.

Bergen County Protect and Rescue is a volunteer, nonprofit, no-kill animal rescue shelter. In 2015, the group took 637 animals into its care, sent 23 to breed-specific rescue groups, and had 147 reclaims and 397 adoptions.

If you or anyone you know is interested in volunteering your time for this cause, contact the shelter at 201-945- 0649, or visit the group's website or Facebook page.
