Little Griddle opened in Nanuet six months ago, mainly selling sandwiches. The restaurant recently opened an ice cream shack, just in time for summer.

The restaurant is owned by Chris Lowry and his wife Brittany, who live in Hillsdale. This is the first restaurant for Chris, a confirmed foodie. Lowry was previously working in marketing and advertising when he decided to make the switch.

"I've always wanted to work with food," Lowry, who previously worked at a Dairy Queen in Montvale, Bistro 55 and DaVinci's said. "I like being around food. There's so much stuff to try to here."

The ice cream shack opened right when the temperature jumped to 90 degrees, selling shakes, malts, sundaes and soft and hard ice cream.

"When I got the ice cream going, it was a real adrenaline rush," Lowry said. "Now it's running smoothly. It's a ton of work but you don't stop and keep on going."

Customers enjoy a buffalo chicken wrap or an Italian hero, with Brittany often offering helpful suggestions. Being right next to the high school means Lowry gets a lot of hungry students and teachers.

Lowry's signature is the Kevin Bacon- 10 strips of bacon, three eggs and four slices of cheese. The actor has yet to come in and try his namesake meal, Lowry said.

Making sure the food is fresh and clean is always at the top of Lowry's mind, he said.

"We make sure everything is sanitary and cooked at the right temperature," Lowry said. "We handle food carefully and avoid cross contamination."

Lowry said running a restaurant can be challenging and he is learning to become a morning person.

"At the beginning I was tired, but now I have to find the energy," Lowry said. "I miss my family sometimes, but they often come in."

Little Griddle is at 112 College Avenue in Nanuet. For more information, click here.
