HILLSDALE, N.J. — The new 6,500-square-foot Hillsdale ShopRite Wines and Spirits on Broadway has become a mecca for aficionados in search of all kinds of drinks.
Opened less than a month ago, it is one of a few freestanding Inserra ShopRite liquor stores in the region, according to Manager Beth Whalen.
Formerly, the spirits shop was inside the ShopRite grocery store across the street.
Now, though, there’s lots of shelf space for the creative and the rare.
“We have over 100 different types of craft beer,” said Kevin Kautz, assistant store manager and a craft beer specialist.
“We get rare beers you can’t find other places,” he added. “We get Bourbon County Stout, for example, and we’re on the list to get Founders KBS.”
There are also Armenian brandies, specialty gift sets, and 50 types of higher-end wines displayed in a $25,000 temperature-controlled fine wine cooler.
“It definitely distinguishes us,” Whalen said. “Not too many stores in this area have a cooler like that.”
Both the Hillsdale and Wallington Wines and Spirits stores feature creative gift baskets made by Marie Dixon of Lyndhurst and Melissa Bedkowski of North Arlington.
The Wallington ShopRite Wines and Spirits store is distinguished by having a draft station at which people can fill growlers.
Industry analysts attribute growth in the beer, wine, and liquor market in recent years to rising consumer confidence and the deregulation of the industry.
Hillsdale Wines and Spirits is at 371 Broadway.
